How it began.
When I first made my way down the driveway, I knew this place was calling me. It was a rather wild landscape with fallen tress, branches and overgrown foliage resembling a jungle. The apple orchard desperately needed a hair cut and the garden had not been tended to for a little while. Blackberries lined the driveway and river. The little cottage was cold and damp.
Together with friends and family we have been able to create an environment that attracts countless varieties of birds and insects. We have planted trees and plants that thrive in the fertile soil.
Seven years on, this little sanctuary is a nurturing space for those who call it home and the ones who come to visit.
Our promise.
Working within the principles of regeneration poses challenges and competing priorities. It also confronts us with old views, our limitations and understanding of the land and it means we have to unlearn a thing or two to be good stewards of this place. It doesn’t always line up with our own dreams but we are committed to continuously learn and grow our understanding of how to create an environment where all living things can thrive.
Where the name came from.
The name ‘The Horse Within’ came to life when I studied with the Equine Psychotherapy Institute in Daylesford and was able to experience both the magic and the skilled practise of my teacher, Meg Kirby, and her horses, gently helping me access my inner horse, a place of ‘coming to ourselves’.
The name represents the embodiment of the unique qualities of horses and taking that space with us anywhere we go.
